How to convert HEIC photos to PDF
HEIC (also called HEIF) is the format iPhones and iPads use for photos by default. It saves space, but many websites, Windows PCs, and upload forms will not accept it. Converting to PDF gives you a file that opens almost anywhere.
The first time you convert HEIC photos, your browser downloads the HEIC decoder, a one-time download of a few MB. After that, conversion starts right away.
- Click Choose HEIC photos, or drag the .heic files onto the drop zone. On an iPhone, you can pick from Photos or Files.
- Arrange the photos with the up and down arrows, and tap × to drop any you do not need.
- Choose a page size and margin.
- Click Convert to PDF. The PDF downloads automatically, and you can use the download button if you need it again.
Converting iPhone photos to PDF on the iPhone itself
iOS has a few built-in options. The Files app can create a PDF from images you select, and the share sheet in Photos includes a Print option whose preview can be shared or saved as a PDF. These work well for a photo or two.
They are less handy when you want precise control: a fixed page order, Letter or A4 pages for printing, or the same result on a Windows PC where HEIC files often will not open at all. They also vary a bit between iOS versions, which makes them hard to repeat reliably.
This converter behaves the same on an iPhone, an iPad, a Mac, or a Windows laptop. If you have AirDropped or emailed HEIC files to a computer, you can convert them there without installing an HEIC extension first.
What the options do
Page size. Same as image (the default) gives every page the dimensions of its photo. US Letter and A4 place each photo on a standard sheet, scaled down to fit and centered, with landscape pages for wide photos. Photos are never enlarged.
Margin. Choose No margin, Small, or Large. Small works well for printing photographed documents.
Orientation and quality. Each HEIC photo is converted to a high-quality JPEG inside your browser before it goes into the PDF. The tool reads the orientation your iPhone recorded, so portrait shots come out upright rather than sideways. Any transparent areas are filled with white.
Privacy and limits
Your photos are converted on your device. They are never uploaded to PaperPorter, which is a real difference for personal pictures and for photos of IDs, insurance cards, or signed documents.
You can add up to 100 photos per PDF, each up to 25 MB. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and BMP files can be mixed in with HEIC ones. The tool does not read text from photos or edit them.
Files ending in .heif are accepted along with .heic, whichever device made them. If a particular photo will not load, export a JPG copy of it from your phone and add that instead.
Tips for HEIC files
Older or less powerful phones may take longer. Decoding HEIC is heavier work than reading a JPG. If you have dozens of large photos, converting on a computer can be quicker, or split the job into two PDFs.
Check whether your photos are actually HEIC. iPhones sometimes hand over a JPG automatically when you share or transfer a photo. If your files end in .jpg, the JPG to PDF page covers the same tool for that format.
Want JPGs from now on? Your iPhone's Camera settings include a format option. Choosing the most compatible setting saves new photos as JPG instead of HEIC.
Keep the first conversion online. The HEIC decoder downloads the first time you use it, so make sure you have a connection for that first run.
Other tools you may need
If you also have screenshots, PNG to PDF handles them losslessly. A finished PDF with one page the wrong way can be fixed with Rotate PDF. And if you are photographing documents for a permit or government application, PaperPorter can help you fill the official PDF form directly.
