How to make your PDF editable

Choose a PDF from your device or drop it into the tool. The preview opens the original pages. Select Text field or Checkbox and click the answer area where you want to place it. Select an added field to change its label or enter an optional answer. Drag the field to move it and use the corner to resize it. Review every page, then choose Download editable PDF. This tool adds fillable fields to an existing PDF. It preserves the original page content instead of rebuilding the document in a new layout. You decide where answers belong, so a printed blank can become a place to type and a checkbox can become selectable. It is useful for a flat application, a worksheet, or a clean scanned form. Your PDF stays on your device

The file is read into browser memory and processed locally. It is not sent to PaperPorter, stored in the shared catalog, or added to an administrator’s review queue. Optional answers you type into the new fields are included in your downloaded copy. They are not saved to an account or sent to an assistant. Close the page or choose Start over to clear the current document. Download before leaving because this tool does not retain your file for a later visit.

Add text fields and checkboxes

Choose Text field for a name, address, short description, or other written answer. If the answer area needs several lines, enable the multiline setting and enlarge the field to cover the available space. Choose Checkbox for a printed selection box and place it carefully beside the correct option. Check whether the official question says to select one or several options. This lightweight tool adds independent checkboxes; it does not create conditional questions or an automatically enforced radio group. Review your selections before using the result.

Keep existing fillable fields

If your PDF already contains form fields, they remain in the downloaded document. The tool tells you how many existing fields it found. You can add extra fields without rebuilding the original ones, then edit the original fields in a compatible viewer after download. New fields have separate identifiers so they do not replace existing answers. Keep a blank source copy for reference and do not share a completed document as though it were an empty reusable template.

Review the downloaded PDF

Open the output in a viewer that supports PDF form fields. Check the original layout, the locations of your fields, and any sample answers. A long answer can need a larger area or a multiline field, so do not rely on a short preview label as proof that all text fits. Inspect every page and test changing a value or clearing a checkbox. If the document is an official application, follow the issuer’s current instructions for attachments, signatures, and submission. A fillable copy is preparation, not approval or filing.

Limits and supported documents

The free tool accepts PDF files up to 20 MB and 30 pages. Password-protected, damaged, signed, and XFA documents are rejected rather than modified. A scanned page stays a scan: you can put fields on it, but there is no OCR or existing-text editing. The added text fields use a standard PDF font; some characters may need a different PDF editor. The tool reports unsupported text rather than silently removing it. For a large file or a specialized form, use an editor that supports the document’s requirements.

Use this converter when you want to add fields to your own local PDF.
