PDF autofill should leave you with the document you actually need. PaperPorter connects a compatible AI assistant to reviewed PDF templates, so answers from a conversation can be written into the original form. Start with a published permit application, provide the project details, and review the saved answers before generating a PDF. The wording and page layout remain those of the issuing agency.

How automatic PDF form filling works

First, ask your assistant to find a form by city and permit type. The connector returns approved templates and their source information. Next, it retrieves the questions, field types, choices, and conditions for your selected form. You supply the answers through the conversation. The assistant saves a draft, checks mapped requirements, and asks you to confirm the saved revision before generating the completed PDF. The connector provides a download link for the resulting document.

Autofill from answers you provide

An assistant can help organize project information already present in your conversation. For example, you can provide a building address and describe a reroof project in a single message, then ask it to use those details for the selected questionnaire. Check the resulting answers carefully. A street address, roofing material, contractor identity, and scope of work each belong in the matching question. If information is missing, ask the assistant to request it rather than assume an answer.

Validation before PDF generation

PaperPorter checks the requirements recorded in the reviewed mapping. Depending on the form, those checks cover missing required answers, valid dates, numeric values, allowed choices, and conditional questions. Validation is useful when a form asks for follow-up information only after a particular option is selected. It is not a determination that your project meets building codes or that the agency will accept the application. You remain responsible for accurate facts, attachments, signatures, and submission.

The original form stays recognizable

Some form tools collect answers in a new layout. PaperPorter uses the original PDF as the destination. Native editable fields are filled where available; reviewed answer areas provide destinations for otherwise flat forms. This keeps agency headings, instructions, and page order in place. Review the rendered output as well as the answer list. Long descriptions may need shortening to fit the writing space at a readable size. Do not reduce meaningful project details simply to get past a fit check.

What PDF autofill does not do yet

The current product does not maintain a reusable company profile or automatically copy a saved identity across unrelated applications. It does not offer bulk database autofill, mail merge, Google Forms export, or automated permit submission. Each application is a draft for one selected template. The assistant should retrieve that template’s questions and collect the appropriate information, even if you have filled a different permit before. Public visitors cannot upload arbitrary PDFs; new templates are added and reviewed by the administrator.

Connect ChatGPT or Claude

Use the ChatGPT plugin setup guide or the Claude Code MCP setup guide. Both point to the same PaperPorter server and approved catalog. Connector availability depends on your account and workspace. OAuth sign-in grants access to your own saved application drafts and generated files. It does not grant administrator privileges. No OpenAI API key is needed to connect your assistant to PaperPorter.

Prefer to type your answers manually?

You can fill PDF forms online without an AI assistant. Open a ready form in the public catalog and enter answers in its PDF preview or question panel. Manual answers stay in that browser page rather than becoming a saved MCP application. Download before you close or refresh the page. A blank editable PDF is also available if you prefer to use a compatible desktop editor.

A useful first test

When the answers are correct, explicitly confirm PDF generation. Open every page of the downloaded file and check the text and selected boxes.
